BMS School Counselor

Mrs. Patrick

970-878-9060 Ext 235

We encourage parents to reach out to our School Counselor, Mrs. Patrick, with any questions about the content of our SEL Curriculum.

Parents who do not wish for their student to receive an SEL lesson for a given week are welcome to opt their child out of that week's lesson by submitting a request in writing to the Principal, Mrs. Johnston ( If parents choose to do so, we will ask that they pick up their child from the school for that class period in which the lesson is presented. Currently, we do not have the space or staff capacity to offer alternative lessons or activities during the scheduled SEL time.

Wellness Class

Each student has a "Wellness" class in their schedule. Our School Counselor, Mrs. Patrick, collaborated with our PE/Health teachers, Mr. Browning and Mrs. Casey, to determine where our SEL curriculum naturally fit within the CO Comprehensive Health & Physical Education standards. Each week, students will have two days of SEL/Health Lessons and two days of Physcial Education (PE).

Social Emotional Curriculum (SEL)

SEL curriculums are built to help students build five primary skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Barone Middle School uses the Emozi Social Emotional Curriculum. Click the button to check out the Scope & Sequence for the course:
